A Short Course In Colon Hydrotherapy
You probably had one of two reactions to the headline above:
1) What in GAWD’s name do those two words mean? Or..
2) She’s not really going to talk about THAT is she?
If you are healthy enough to have experienced colon hydrotherapy you are probably reading on to see if I have any new tidbits for you.
In any case, let’s get this info party started.
First, the history of colonic hydrotherapy.
Colonics have their genesis as an ancient method of natural healing. As early at 1500 BC, in the Ebers Papyrus (an ancient Egyptian medical resource) enemas were talked about. Enema therapy was a favorite of Hippocrates and other ancient scientists and theoreticians. The early adaptors used hollow reeds found in a lake or river as a device to push water into their nether parts.
Bernard Jensen, D.C. the early holistic practitioner, noted this early practice when he said:
“In times past, knowledge of the bowel was more widespread and people were taught how to care for the bowel.”
In fact, enemas were at one time a more common procedure than they are today. It’s hard to imagine Buzz Aldrin getting instructed on how to administer an enema while exploring outer space, but early adventurers Lewis and Clark departure were instructed by a physician on the appropriateness of using enemas in case of fever and illness during expeditions. Many of us can remember Granny or Gramps’ enema bag hanging in a bathroom closet or cabinet, since enemas were a widely accepted procedure for reversing the onset of illness in decades past.
Next, let’s identify the geography we are about to discuss:
Your colon, or large intestine, is just one part of your digestive system. Each of us are home to a long hollow tube that runs from your mouth to your anus. This “highway” is responsible for taking in food, digesting it and then eliminating it.
The colon, one of many body organs, is the last part of this system, and is made up of muscle tissue. This muscle, like most, has a purpose: to move digested food, with all of the attendant toxic materials, along the digestive freeway and out of the body. This is accomplished through what are called peristaltic actions. Peristalsis is wave-like movement that gets stuff from Point A to Point B, in this case a distance of about 5 1/2 feet.
Toxins
When the walls of the colon are packed or lined with accumulated feces, constipation is sure to follow because the colon can neither absorb nor eliminate properly.
Even people who have regular, daily elimination, may be suffering from a bowel problem. When the complete length of the colon is impacted with fecal matter, these people may still eliminate, but not efficiently. The narrow channel caused by impaction allows for only the smaller, softer feces to pass through. An improperly cleansed colon is like an alley packed with garbage and the garbage men have gone on strike or the tucks have broken down. Not pretty. Not fun.
The Whole Body Affect
Your colon is your sewage system for your entire body. Wastes that are allowed to build up in the colon decay. Next, they absorb through the colon walls and enter into the bloodstream. These toxins that are released can poison the brain and nervous system, causing depression, irritability, weakness and lethargy.
When these toxins poison the lungs, your breath is foul; when they poison the digestive system you get distressed and bloated; and when they poison the blood your skin becomes sallow and unhealthy looking. The whole body system is affected.
Benefits Of Colon Hydrotherapy
The foundational theory is that to properly cleanse the body’s tissues, we must start by a thorough cleansing of the bowel. This is not necessarily a speedy, one time process since It took time to pollute our bodies to the point of disease, and it will take time to reverse the process. Another key element of the theory behind colonic cleansing is that the body’s natural immune system can only be built up in a clean body; a body with a minimum amount of accumulated toxic material.
Colon hydrotherapy is not a cure by any means, but it is a valuable procedure and treatment for a wide variety of different health conditions, as a toxic bowel is a source of many health problems. By stripping down the old, toxic mucus lining of the bowel, we remove what many believe is the number one source of disease in the body.
All About Natural Balance
A cleansed bowel becomes a more efficient means of elimination and nutrient absorption. This is also the first step toward rebuilding friendly bacteria and establishing the normalized, more healthy ph balance that keeps the colon safe from putrefaction and further auto-intoxication.
Nowadays, as in times past, surgeons and physicians are beginning to understand the importance of bowel care in the prevention of disease.
